3D Solar Powered Flashlight

This project took a while to complete. We started by putting together the solar panel. After that, we designed a box to hold the solar panel. To be more creative, we added to the box. Our additions added a handle and changed the direction of the lights. Sadly, this design didn't work. The holes did not go all the way through. Now, we know for next time.

Solar Pannel

I think energy from the solar pannel powers the batteries and then travels to the lights.

3D design

Our design in Tinkercad

Our design in real life

This was designed by Charlie, John, Rhys, and me. I was the one who first came up with the idea. I came up with it when I was facetiming my dad. My dad asked me to do something so I set my ipod 5 against the wall so he could still see me. Suddenly, the ipod fell over. I thought it was broken. That's when I got the idea to make this. This is the story of how I got the idea.

Engineering our idea took a long time and it was really hard. We had to be very careful with our calculations. Everything turned out great. We designed the holder and case separately. Designing these two things took the longest. We printed our design twice. The first time, the case was too small and the holder wasn't big enough. WE then changed the calculations and made our final design. I am very proud of my design.

During the design we ran into a couple of disagreements. One of them was that everyone else in my group wanted the holder to stand on chicken legs. I thought that wasn't the best idea so I showed them my idea. After I showed them my idea John and Charlie agreed with me. Rhys however, still wanted to do chicken legs. We ended up convincing him.  Another one was about what color the design should be. We all decided to just make it plain white. These were two of our disagreements.
